Lips are treated for two quite different reasons, and confusing them is the most common cause of a disappointing result. If there is genuinely not enough volume, hyaluronic acid filler adds it — half a syringe for a first treatment or a subtle correction, a full syringe for more definite shape and definition. If the volume is already there but hidden because the upper lip curls inward when you smile, adding filler will not fix that, and a lip flip will: a few units of neurotoxin relax the muscle so the lip rolls outward and shows more of itself. Many patients do best with a combination. Filler placed in the lip must stay soft and move naturally with speech, so product selection matters as much here as placement.

Lip flip or lip filler — which do I need?
If your lips lack volume, filler is the answer. If you have volume that disappears when you smile because the upper lip rolls inward, a lip flip addresses that and filler will not. A lip flip adds nothing and lasts a couple of months; filler adds volume and lasts considerably longer. Many patients combine them.
Should I start with a half syringe or a full one?
A half syringe is a sensible first treatment. It is easier to add more at a review than to reduce an overfilled lip, and it lets you see how your lips take product before committing further.
How long does lip filler last?
Lips are mobile and metabolise filler faster than most areas, so expect less longevity here than in the cheek or jaw. Your injector will give you a realistic range for the product used.
Can lip filler be reversed?
Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase, whether it was placed here or elsewhere.
