What is Dermal Fillers?
Hyaluronic acid gel is injected at a depth appropriate to the area to restore volume and support where tissue and bone have receded.
Facial ageing is largely a story of loss. Fat pads descend and diminish, bone resorbs at the orbital rim and the jaw, and skin loses the hyaluronic acid that binds water and keeps it full. Filler addresses that directly: the gel occupies the space where tissue has receded and draws water into it. Different regions demand different properties, which is why the range exists — a filler that must project a chin needs firmness, while one placed in a tear trough must be minimally hydrophilic or it will hold water and puff. We work with the Juvederm range from Allergan, Restylane from Galderma and Revanesse Versa from Prollenium, and the product is selected for the area rather than chosen in advance. Selection and placement, far more than brand, determine whether a result looks like you. The tear trough is the most technically demanding area we treat and is performed only by a senior injector.
Where can dermal filler be used?
Filler restores structure where tissue and bone have receded, so the areas treated are usually not the areas people first notice ageing in. Cheeks and midface are the most common, because volume lost there is what allows the lower face to descend. The chin and jawline are treated for definition and profile balance, the temples where hollowing has made the upper face look drawn, and the tear trough where under-eye shadowing is caused by a genuine hollow rather than by pigment. Nasolabial folds are often better addressed by supporting the cheek above them than by filling the fold itself. Hands and the nose can also be treated. Which of these applies to you is an assessment, not a menu choice, and treating the area that bothers you is not always the treatment that fixes it.
How is the right filler chosen?
Hyaluronic acid fillers vary in how firm they are and how much they hold their shape under pressure, and that difference is what makes one appropriate for the jaw and another for the under-eye. A firm product placed deep against bone gives structure and projection; a soft, low-water product placed superficially gives smoothness without weight. Using the wrong one is the usual reason a result looks or feels wrong — a firm filler in the tear trough can be visible or hold water, and a soft filler used for jaw definition simply will not hold the line. Depth matters as much as product: the same syringe placed at two different levels does two different things. This is why product selection is a clinical decision made at assessment rather than something ordered in advance.
What is recovery like, and can filler be reversed?
Most people return to normal activity immediately. Swelling and bruising are the usual after-effects, vary by area, and are most pronounced around the eyes and lips. Avoiding strenuous exercise, alcohol and significant heat for the first day reduces both. You may be advised not to press or massage the area unless specifically instructed to. Hyaluronic acid filler is reversible: hyaluronidase dissolves it, whether it was placed here or elsewhere, which is a meaningful safety margin that permanent fillers do not offer. Reversal is also the emergency treatment for a vascular complication, which is rare but is the reason filler should only ever be placed by someone trained to recognise and manage it, with hyaluronidase on site. Ask any clinic whether they hold it before being treated.

Filler placed at the piriform aperture, the bony opening at the base of the nose that recedes with age. Restoring support here lifts the base of the nose and the upper lip and softens deep smile lines at their origin, which often achieves more than filling the nasolabial fold directly.
Chin Shadow / Prejowl Filler
Filler placed in the prejowl sulcus, the hollow that forms either side of the chin as the jawline loses bone support. Smoothing that step removes the shadow that reads as an early jowl and restores a continuous line from chin to jaw.
Common questions
How is under-eye or tear trough filler different from other areas?
It is the most technically demanding filler we place. The skin is thin, the anatomy is unforgiving, and a product that holds too much water will puff rather than smooth. It is performed only by a senior injector, and for some patients PRP or EZ Gel is the better answer than hyaluronic acid.
What is a non-surgical rhinoplasty?
Filler used to smooth a dorsal bump, lift the tip or improve symmetry without surgery. It adds rather than removes, so it suits some noses and not others — which is a consultation question.
What happens if I do not like the result?
Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase, whether it was placed here or at another clinic. Patch testing may be required first.
